Ingredients
Vegetables
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
Meat & Dairy
- 1 pound ground beef, 90% lean
- 8 oz provolone cheese
Seasonings & Sauces
- ½ teaspoon table salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Bread
- 4 hoagie rolls, 7″ each, or 1 French baguette, cut into 4 pieces
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F to prepare for toasting the sandwiches later.
- Cook Ground Beef and Vegetables: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion, green bell pepper, ground beef, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Cook for approximately 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and the beef is thoroughly browned.
- Prepare Bread: While the beef mixture cooks, slice the hoagie rolls in half or cut the French baguette into four 4-inch pieces and slice each piece in half. Arrange these on a baking sheet.
- Add Worcestershire and Cheese: Once the beef mixture is fully cooked, stir in the Worcestershire sauce. Lay half of the provolone cheese slices over the beef mixture and reduce the heat to low. Allow the cheese to melt for about a few minutes, then stir until well combined.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Use tongs to transfer the cheesy beef mixture evenly onto the prepared bread halves on the baking sheet. Place the remaining provolone cheese slices on top of each sandwich for extra cheesiness.
- Bake for Melting and Toasting: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the sandwiches for 3-5 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the rolls are lightly toasted.
Notes
- For a more authentic Philly cheesesteak flavor, you can substitute ground beef with thinly sliced ribeye steak if time permits.
- Feel free to add sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor and texture.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add some crushed red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
- Make sure not to over-toast the rolls to prevent them from becoming too hard.
- Using 90% lean ground beef helps reduce excess fat but keeps the meat flavorful and juicy.
