Ingredients
Apple Fritter Dough
- 1 cup diced apples
- 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- 1 cup 2% blended cottage cheese
Glaze
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon almond milk, plain, unsweetened
Instructions
- Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375℉ to ensure it’s hot and ready for cooking the fritters evenly.
- Prepare Apple Mixture: In a bowl, combine diced apples, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Toss well to coat the apple pieces evenly with the sugar and spice for balanced sweetness and flavor.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: Add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and sea salt to the apple mixture. Stir to incorporate all dry ingredients thoroughly with the apples.
- Add Cottage Cheese: Pour in the blended 2% cottage cheese and stir the mixture using a wooden spoon or silicone spatula. Once the dough starts to come together into a ball, knead gently with your hands right in the bowl until well combined.
- Shape the Dough: Lightly flour a clean work surface and transfer the dough onto it. Cut the dough into 4 equal pieces to form individual fritters.
- Form Fritters: Place two dough pieces on a sheet of parchment paper and gently press each into a traditional round fritter shape, ensuring the apples are evenly distributed.
- Air Fry Fritters: Place the shaped fritters in the air fryer basket. Air fry at 375℉ for 4 minutes, then flip and air fry for another 4 minutes. Repeat this process for all dough pieces, cooking until golden and cooked through.
- Prepare Glaze: While the fritters cook, whisk together powdered sugar and almond milk in a small bowl until smooth and pourable.
- Glaze Fritters: Once fritters are done, dip them into the glaze to coat. Place on a wire cooling rack to allow excess glaze to drip off and set for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use 2% blended cottage cheese for the best texture; blending ensures smooth incorporation into the dough.
- Ensure the air fryer is preheated for even cooking and crispiness.
- You can substitute almond milk with any other plant-based milk if preferred.
- For a stronger apple flavor, use tart apples like Granny Smith.
- Allow glaze to set fully before serving to avoid messiness.
- Store leftover fritters in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer for best texture.
