Crispy and flavorful air fryer chicken thighs seasoned with a blend of paprika, basil, oregano, garlic, and onion powder. This quick and easy recipe ensures juicy meat with perfectly crisp skin, ready in just 30 minutes.

  • Total Time: 30-34 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 6 chicken thighs (skin-on, trimmed)

Seasonings and Oil

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Heat your air fryer to 400°F (204°C) for at least 5 minutes to ensure it’s properly preheated for even cooking.
  2. Prepare the Chicken: Place the 6 chicken thighs skin side up in a large mixing bowl or dish to get them ready for seasoning.
  3. Oil the Chicken: Drizzle 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the chicken pieces and rub evenly over the skin to coat each thigh thoroughly.
  4. Mix Seasonings: In a small bowl, combine 2 teaspoons paprika, 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper until well mixed.
  5. Season the Chicken: Sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly over the chicken. Gently rub some under the skin to enhance the flavor throughout.
  6. Arrange in Air Fryer: Place the seasoned chicken thighs skin side down in the preheated air fryer basket ensuring they are in a single layer for even cooking.
  7. Cook First Side: Air fry the chicken for 10 to 12 minutes, allowing the skin to begin crisping up and the chicken to cook through.
  8. Flip and Continue Cooking: Using tongs, flip the chicken to skin side up. Cook for an additional 10 to 12 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches between 165–175°F (74–80°C) and the skin is crisp and browned.
  9. Rest and Serve: Remove from the air fryer and let the chicken rest for 2 to 3 minutes before serving. This resting period helps the juices redistribute, resulting in juicy, tender thighs.

Notes

  • Ensure the chicken thighs are in a single layer without overlapping for even cooking and crispiness.
  • Use a meat thermometer to check doneness accurately, aiming for an internal temperature of 165°F to 175°F.
  • Adjust seasoning amounts to taste, especially salt if preferred lower.
  • Letting the chicken rest after cooking is key for juicy texture.
  • If air fryer models vary in cooking times and heat intensity, check earlier to avoid overcooking.
