Ingredients
Soup Base
- 4 pounds whole chicken
- 4 quarts water
- ¼ cup chicken broth base
- 2 stalks celery, roughly chopped
- 1 small onion, diced
- ¼ cup parsley
Main Ingredients
- 12 ounces dried egg noodles
- 10 ounces cream of chicken soup
- 4 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Prepare Broth: Add the whole chicken, water, chicken broth base, celery, onion, and parsley into a large stock pot. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer and cover the pot.
- Simmer Chicken: Let the chicken simmer for 2 to 3 hours to extract maximum flavor into the broth, making it rich and savory.
- Remove Chicken Meat: Carefully lift the chicken from the broth, then remove the meat from the bones. Shred or chop the chicken into bite-sized pieces for easy eating.
- Strain Broth: Pour the broth through a fine mesh strainer to remove all solids, leaving a clear, flavorful liquid.
- Boil Broth for Noodles: Return 4 cups of the strained broth to the pot and bring it to a boil, preparing it to cook the egg noodles.
- Add Noodles and Chicken: Add the dried egg noodles and shredded chicken into the boiling broth. Cover the pot and turn off the heat, letting noodles soak.
- Soak Noodles: Let the noodles set for 30 minutes off heat, stirring every 10 minutes to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
- Check Noodle Doneness: Test the noodles; if they are not fully cooked, return the pot to heat and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until tender.
- Add Cream Soup and Butter: Stir in the cream of chicken soup and butter until the butter melts completely, blending creaminess throughout the mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve or Keep Warm: Serve the dish immediately or keep it covered in the pot to stay warm for up to 30 minutes without overcooking.
Notes
- Use dried egg noodles for best texture; fresh noodles may alter cooking times.
- Simmering longer enhances broth depth and flavor.
- Adjust salt and pepper to taste after adding soup and butter as soup may already contain salt.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and gently reheated with extra broth if needed.
