Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
- 1 bag (25 ounces) frozen cheese ravioli (do not thaw)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried basil, divided
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano, divided
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes, divided (optional)
Optional Garnish
- Chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (176 degrees C). Lightly coat a large baking dish (9×13-inch rectangular or a large circular dish) with nonstick cooking spray or a little olive oil to prevent sticking.
- Layer Sauce and Ravioli: Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce evenly on the bottom of the baking dish. Arrange a single layer of frozen cheese ravioli over the sauce, spreading them out to cover the surface. Then, spoon more marinara sauce over the ravioli layer.
- Add Cheese and Herbs: Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese over the sauce. Next, evenly distribute about half of the dried basil, half of the dried oregano, and half of the red pepper flakes, if using.
- Repeat Layers: Repeat the layering process by adding the remaining marinara sauce, another layer of frozen ravioli, then topping with the remaining mozzarella, Parmesan cheeses, and dried herbs and red pepper flakes.
- Bake: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Afterward, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden. Optionally, turn on the oven broiler and broil for 30 to 90 seconds for a browned cheese topping—watch closely to avoid burning.
- Garnish and Serve: Let the baked ravioli cool for a few minutes before serving. Optionally garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a burst of color and freshness.
Notes
- Do not thaw the frozen ravioli before assembling; use it directly from the freezer for best texture.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to taste or omit if you prefer a milder dish.
- Use a 9×13 inch baking dish or similarly sized pan for even cooking.
- Broiling is optional but adds a beautiful golden top to the cheese.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
