This fresh and vibrant Basil Balsamic Vinaigrette combines fragrant basil with tangy balsamic vinegar and smooth extra-virgin olive oil for a versatile salad dressing. Perfect for dressing greens, roasted vegetables, or as a marinade, it comes together quickly in under 5 minutes using a blender or food processor.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Vinaigrette Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh basil (about 0.7 ounces), lightly packed
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Salt to season

Instructions

  1. Combine & Blend: In a food processor or blender, combine the 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar, 1 minced garlic clove, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, and 1 cup lightly packed fresh basil. Pulse or blend until the mixture is smooth and emulsified.
  2. Finish & Season: Taste the dressing and add salt as needed to enhance the flavors. If the vinaigrette is too thick, add a little more olive oil a teaspoon at a time to thin it to your desired consistency. Serve immediately or store in a closed container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Notes

  • Use fresh basil for the brightest flavor; dried basil will alter the taste significantly.
  • This vinaigrette can be stored refrigerated for up to 4 days; stir or shake well before using.
  • Adjust the amount of garlic depending on your preference for pungency.
  • To make it vegan, ensure the Dijon mustard used contains no honey or animal products.
  • For a smoother dressing, strain the vinaigrette through a fine mesh sieve if desired.
