Ingredients
Beef
- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
Sauce
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
Vegetables and Aromatics
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece fresh ginger, minced
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
Other
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil, divided
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Cooked rice or noodles for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Stir until the cornstarch dissolves completely. Set aside.
- Blanch broccoli: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add broccoli florets and cook for 2-3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and rinse with cold water to stop cooking.
- Sear the beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Season beef with salt and pepper, spread in a single layer, and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Sauté aromatics: In the same pan, add remaining 1 tablespoon avocado oil. Stir-fry garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Cook broccoli: Add the blanched broccoli back to the pan and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until tender-crisp.
- Combine and finish: Return the seared beef to the pan with broccoli. Pour the prepared sauce over everything and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and evenly coats the ingredients.
- Serve: Serve the beef and broccoli stir fry over steamed rice or noodles. Optionally garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions.
Notes
- Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain for more tender bites.
- Blanching the broccoli before stir-frying keeps it vibrant and tender-crisp.
- Adjust the crushed red pepper flakes to control the spice level.
- Use avocado oil or any high-heat oil for best results in stir-frying.
- Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
