Beef Wellington Fried Wontons combine tender, savory beef and mushroom filling wrapped in crispy fried wonton wrappers, offering the classic flavors of Beef Wellington in a fun, shareable appetizer form. Perfect for gatherings or a sophisticated snack, these wontons deliver rich, herby, and satisfying bites with a crisp golden exterior.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 42 wontons

Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 lb beef sirloin, finely chopped
  • 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped

Assembly

  • 36 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
  • 3 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped mushrooms and cook until the moisture is released and evaporated, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in minced garlic, chopped thyme, salt, and black pepper to infuse the mixture with flavor. Then add the finely chopped beef sirloin and cook until just browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure not to overcook. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool completely before assembling the wontons.
  2. Assemble the wontons: Place a small spoonful of the cooled beef and mushroom filling into the center of each wonton wrapper. Lightly brush the edges of the wrapper with the beaten egg to help seal. Fold each wonton into a triangle shape, pressing the edges firmly to ensure they are sealed and no filling escapes during frying.
  3. Fry the wontons: Heat 3 cups of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the wontons in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Cook each batch for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried wontons and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  4. Serve warm: Arrange the crispy Beef Wellington fried wontons on a serving platter and serve immediately to enjoy their crisp texture and savory filling at their best.

Notes

  • Ensure the filling is completely cooled before wrapping to prevent the wonton wrappers from tearing.
  • Use a thermometer to maintain the oil temperature at 350°F for even frying and a crisp finish.
  • Wontons can be prepared in advance and refrigerated before frying for convenience.
  • Experiment with dipping sauces such as soy sauce, horseradish cream, or mustard for added flavor contrast.
  • Leftover fried wontons can be reheated in an air fryer or oven to restore crispness.
