This Best Ever Chicken Burger recipe features juicy, Mediterranean-spiced chicken patties with a crispy breaded exterior, perfect for a flavorful and satisfying meal. Made with ground chicken, Italian seasoning, Greek yogurt, and a unique touch of Urfa Biber, these patties are pan-seared to golden perfection and served with fresh vegetables and garlic aioli on toasted buns or lettuce wraps for a gluten-free option.

  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

For The Chicken Patties

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup dried bread crumbs (use gluten-free bread crumbs for GF option)
  • 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt
  • 1 small yellow onion, grated
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon Urfa Biber (or red pepper flakes as substitute)
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil

To Serve

  • 4 burger buns (or lettuce wraps for low carb/gluten free option)
  • Garlic aioli
  • Romaine lettuce
  • 1 large tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium red onion, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Make the chicken patty mixture: In a medium mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, 1/4 cup bread crumbs, Greek yogurt, grated onion, Italian seasoning, and Urfa Biber or red pepper flakes. Drizzle about 1 tablespoon of olive oil and mix thoroughly using your hands, ensuring all ingredients are evenly incorporated. Use gloves or wash your hands well after mixing.
  2. Bread the chicken patties: Spread remaining 1/4 cup bread crumbs on a plate. Divide the chicken mixture into 4 equal meatballs, then gently roll each in the bread crumbs. Flatten each ball into about 3/4-inch thick patties using gentle palm pressure to avoid breaking.
  3. Pan-sear the chicken patties: Heat a large cast iron skillet or grill pan over medium heat and brush the bottom with about 2 teaspoons olive oil. When oil shimmers, arrange patties in the pan without overcrowding. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until the bottom is golden brown, then flip and cook an additional 3 minutes or until the patties are cooked through and golden on both sides.
  4. Build the chicken burgers: Spread a thin layer of garlic aioli on the burger buns or lettuce wraps. Layer with romaine lettuce, the cooked chicken patty, tomato slices, and red onion. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free bread crumbs and serve the burger wrapped in lettuce or over salad instead of buns.
  • If you don’t have Urfa Biber, substitute with red pepper flakes for a similar kick.
  • Make sure not to overmix the chicken patty mixture to keep the patties tender.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on your stove and pan; ensure the internal temperature of chicken patties reaches 165°F (74°C) for safety.
  • Leftover patties can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated in a pan or oven.
