Ingredients
Cake Mixture
- 1 box vanilla cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)
- 1/4 cup (27g) powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Coating & Decoration
- 12 oz light pink color melts
- White nonpareils sprinkles
- 24 lollipop sticks
Instructions
- Prepare Cake: Follow the baking instructions on the vanilla cake mix box to bake the cake. Be careful not to overbake to ensure the cake remains moist for easier shaping.
- Mix Cake Dough: Once out of the oven, crumble the hot cake into the bowl of a stand mixer. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Using the paddle attachment on low speed, mix until the mixture forms a dough ball that can be pressed together.
- Shape Cake Balls: Portion the dough and roll into balls with your palms or use a cake pop press for uniform shapes.
- Freeze Cake Balls: Place the shaped cake balls on a cookie sheet and freeze until firm to ensure they hold together during dipping.
- Melt Candy Coating: Gently melt the light pink color melts according to package instructions until smooth.
- Attach Sticks: Dip each lollipop stick into the melted candy coating, then insert it into the center of each frozen cake ball to secure the stick.
- Set Sticks: Place the cake pops in the fridge or freezer to set the candy coating binding the stick to the cake ball.
- Coat Cake Pops: Pour melted candy melts into a tall container. Dip each cake pop into the melted coating, gently shake off excess, then immediately decorate with white nonpareils if desired.
- Dry Cake Pops: Stand the dipped cake pops upright by placing them in holes of a cardboard box or foam block to allow the coating to harden completely.
- Serve or Store: Serve immediately or individually package the cake pops with bags and ribbons for gifting. Store at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Enjoy: Delight in these fun and tasty birthday cake pops perfect for any festive occasion!
Notes
- Do not overbake the cake to ensure the cake balls can be molded easily.
- Freezing the cake balls before dipping helps prevent them from falling apart.
- Use a tall, skinny container to dip the cake pops evenly in the melted candy coating.
- For best results, keep cake pops refrigerated if storing longer than 3 days.
- You can customize the color and decoration of the candy melts to suit different occasions.
