A simple, flavorful baked Arctic char recipe featuring a sweet and tangy brown sugar Dijon glaze that perfectly complements the tender, flaky fish. Ready in just 25 minutes, this dish is ideal for a quick and elegant weeknight dinner.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Fish

  • 4 (6 ounce) pieces Arctic char, skin on

Glaze

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Garnish

  • Chopped fresh parsley, to taste (optional but recommended)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F and position the rack in the top third of the oven. Line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup and lightly spray it with cooking spray.
  2. Prepare the fish: Pat the Arctic char fillets dry with paper towels and place them skin-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Make the glaze: In a small bowl, combine Dijon mustard, brown sugar, lemon juice, garlic powder, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix well until smooth.
  4. Apply the glaze: Evenly spread the brown sugar Dijon mixture over the top of each fish fillet.
  5. Bake the fish: Bake the fish uncovered for 10 to 15 minutes, checking at the 10-minute mark especially if the fillets are about 1/2 inch thick, until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  6. Finish and serve: Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley and adjust seasoning with extra salt and pepper if desired. Note that the skin will not crisp in this recipe and can be slid off when serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh Arctic char fillets if possible for best flavor and texture.
  • Watch the fish closely near the end of cooking to avoid overcooking, as thickness may vary.
  • The skin in this recipe will not become crispy; it can be removed easily before serving if preferred.
  • Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
  • This glaze can be adapted to other firm white fish or salmon.
