Ingredients
Steak Marinade
- 1 lb. flank, skirt, or bottom round steak
- 2/3 cup soy sauce
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
Burrito Filling
- 2 cups French fries
- Homemade taco seasoning, to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup guacamole
- 4 burrito-size flour tortillas
Instructions
- Prepare Marinade: In a shallow dish, combine soy sauce, olive oil, chopped cilantro, lime juice, minced garlic, Kosher salt, and freshly cracked black pepper to create the marinade.
- Marinate Steak: Add the steak to the marinade and toss to ensure it is evenly coated. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 12 hours to allow the flavors to infuse.
- Prepare Fries: Cook French fries according to the package directions until crispy. Once cooked, season fries with homemade taco seasoning to taste for a flavorful kick.
- Heat Grill or Skillet: Preheat a large cast iron griddle, grill, or heavy skillet over medium-high heat to prepare for searing the steak.
- Sear Steak: Remove steak from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Place the steak slices on the hot grill or skillet and sear for about a minute on each side until the desired doneness is reached. Once cooked, let the steak rest for 5 minutes to retain juices, then thinly slice against the grain.
- Assemble Burritos: Lay out a flour tortilla and layer with one-quarter of the sliced steak, shredded cheese, seasoned fries, sour cream, and guacamole. Distribute the ingredients evenly to ensure balanced flavor in each bite.
- Roll Burrito: Roll the tortilla tightly around the fillings to form a burrito. Repeat the assembly and rolling process for the remaining tortillas and ingredients until all four burritos are complete.
- Serve: Slice each burrito in half if desired and serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Marinating the steak for longer than 2 hours (up to 12) intensifies the flavor and tenderizes the meat.
- Use fresh homemade taco seasoning to control sodium and spice levels.
- For a crispier burrito, grill the wrapped burritos on the skillet for a minute on each side after rolling.
- Substitute sour cream and guacamole with dairy-free options to make it lactose-free or vegan.
- Choose gluten-free tortillas to accommodate gluten sensitivities.
