Ingredients
Ingredients
- ½ box Christmas Rice Krispies cereal (approximately 3.5 to 4 cups)
- 11 oz bag of Caramel Bits
- 7 oz Sweetened Condensed Milk (approximately ¾ cup)
- 3 tablespoons Butter
- 4 dozen Marshmallows (48 marshmallows)
- Optional: Wooden Skewers
Instructions
- Prepare the cereal: Pour about half of the Christmas Rice Krispies cereal into a large bowl and set aside for coating the marshmallows later.
- Melt caramel mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramel bits, butter, and sweetened condensed milk. Microwave for 30 seconds, remove and stir, then continue to microwave in 30-second intervals stirring each time for about 3 minutes, or until the mixture is completely melted and smooth.
- Dip marshmallows in caramel: Place a marshmallow on a wooden skewer and dip it into the warm caramel mixture, making sure it is fully coated. Gently tap off any excess caramel to avoid clumping.
- Coat with cereal: Roll the caramel-covered marshmallow in the reserved Rice Krispies cereal bowl, pressing lightly to ensure the marshmallow is fully coated with cereal. Carefully remove the skewer.
- Set the treats: Place the coated marshmallow balls on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Let them set at room temperature for about 45 minutes until the caramel hardens and the treats firm up.
- Serve fresh: These Rice Krispies balls are best enjoyed the same day they are made, as storing them overnight can cause the cereal coating to become soft and lose its crunch.
- Enjoy! Share these sweet and crunchy caramel marshmallow treats with family and friends during the holidays.
Notes
- Using wooden skewers makes dipping easier and more precise but is optional.
- Ensure the caramel mixture is warm and fluid for easy dipping; reheat if it starts to harden.
- Use parchment paper to prevent sticking during setting.
- For added flavor, you can sprinkle some holiday-themed edible glitter or colored sugar on the balls before they set.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 6 hours if needed, but best consumed fresh.
