These Cheeseburger Sliders are a crowd-pleasing appetizer or game day treat made with seasoned ground beef, melted American cheese, and soft dinner rolls. Topped with a flavorful burger sauce and toasted sesame seed buns, these sliders are quick to prepare and perfect for parties or casual gatherings.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 12 sliders

Ingredients

Ground Beef Mixture

  • 1 Tbsp. softened butter
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1/2 white onion, finely diced
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp. yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • pepper, to taste

Burgers

  • 1 pack dinner rolls, 12 count (King’s Hawaiian Savory Butter Rolls recommended)
  • 16 slices American cheese (Boar’s Head recommended)
  • 3 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • Pinch of salt and garlic powder
  • 2 tsp. white sesame seeds

Burger Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp. sweet pickle relish
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. distilled white vinegar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Butter the bottom of a baking sheet with 1 tablespoon softened butter to prevent sticking and set it aside.
  2. Cook Ground Beef Mixture: Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a medium sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add the finely diced half white onion and sauté for about 3 minutes until softened. Add 1 pound ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, for 6 to 7 minutes until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  3. Season the Meat: Add 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 tablespoon yellow mustard, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, and pepper to taste. Stir for another minute to combine the flavors thoroughly.
  4. Prepare the Rolls: Slice the 12 dinner rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom halves on the buttered baking sheet.
  5. Make Butter Mixture for Buns: Whisk together 3 tablespoons melted butter with a pinch of salt and garlic powder to brush on the buns.
  6. Assemble Sliders: Place 8 slices of American cheese evenly on the bottom halves of the rolls. Spread the cooked ground beef mixture over the cheese, gently patting it down with a wooden spoon to compact it. Layer the remaining 8 slices of cheese over the beef, locking everything together.
  7. Add Top Buns and Season: Cover with the top halves of the rolls. Brush the tops generously with the melted butter mixture and sprinkle with 2 teaspoons white sesame seeds for a toasted finish.
  8. Bake Sliders: Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes until the sliders are warmed through and the cheese has melted. Watch closely to prevent the buns from browning too quickly; loosely cover with foil if needed.
  9. Prepare Burger Sauce: While sliders bake, whisk together 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1/4 cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish, 2 teaspoons sugar, 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar, and salt and pepper to taste in a bowl until well combined.
  10. Finish and Serve: Optionally brush the baked sliders with extra melted butter after removing them from the oven. Cut the sliders and serve hot with the prepared burger sauce. Enjoy immediately for the best taste.

Notes

  • Using King’s Hawaiian Savory Butter Rolls provides the perfect sweet and soft texture for sliders.
  • Be careful not to overcook the sliders in the oven to avoid drying out the meat or hardening the rolls.
  • You can substitute American cheese with cheddar or your preferred melting cheese for variation.
  • The burger sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 2 days.
  • Double the recipe for larger gatherings as these sliders are highly popular and go quickly.
