Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 (10 ounce) can cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 pound frozen tater tots
- 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt (additional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
- Cook Ground Beef and Onion: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion becomes soft and translucent. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Layer Beef Mixture: Transfer the cooked ground beef and onions into the bottom of a 9×9-inch casserole dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Season Beef: Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of seasoned salt gently over the beef mixture to enhance the flavor.
- Add Cheese: Evenly sprinkle all of the shredded sharp cheddar cheese on top of the beef mixture so it melts into the layers.
- Spread Cream of Chicken Soup: Spoon and spread the entire can of cream of chicken soup evenly over the cheese and beef layer.
- Top with Tater Tots: Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the soup layer for a crispy topping.
- Season Tater Tots: Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of seasoned salt over the tater tots to add extra flavor.
- Cover and Bake: Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes to heat through and allow flavors to meld.
- Uncover and Continue Baking: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and serve immediately while hot and cheesy.
Notes
- You can substitute cream of chicken soup with cream of mushroom soup for a different flavor.
- For extra crispiness, broil the casserole for 2-3 minutes after baking (watch carefully to prevent burning).
- Feel free to add vegetables like peas or corn into the beef mixture for added nutrition.
- This casserole is best served fresh but can be refrigerated and reheated within two days.
- Use low-fat cheese or reduced-sodium soup for a lighter version of this dish.
