Ingredients
For the Chicken Teriyaki Burgers
- 1 lb. ground chicken
- 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil (for frying)
- 4 brioche buns
- 1/4 cup yum yum sauce (or mayo, sriracha, chili crisp, or preferred sauce)
For the Sesame Slaw
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
Instructions
- Make the Sesame Slaw: In a bowl, combine shredded cabbage, toasted sesame oil, rice vinegar, sugar, salt, and chopped green onions if using. Toss well to mix all ingredients evenly. Taste and adjust seasoning as desired for a balanced tangy and savory slaw.
- Make the Burgers: In a large bowl, mix ground chicken with teriyaki sauce, panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, and salt using clean hands. Form the mixture into four evenly sized large patties, ensuring they hold together well.
- Fry the Burgers: Heat avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken patties to the hot pan and cook for 3-5 minutes on one side until golden brown and mostly cooked. Flip the patties carefully and cook for another 2-3 minutes, ensuring the internal temperature reaches at least 165°F and there is no pink in the center.
- Toast Buns: After cooking the burgers, wipe out the skillet if necessary to remove any burnt bits. Place the brioche buns cut side down in the skillet over medium-low heat, toasting just until they are lightly browned and warmed through.
- Assemble Burgers: Spread yum yum sauce generously on the top and bottom halves of each toasted bun. Place a cooked chicken teriyaki patty on the bottom bun, then top with a hearty scoop of sesame slaw. Cover with the top bun, press gently, slice if desired, and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Ensure the chicken is cooked thoroughly to an internal temperature of 165°F to avoid any food safety issues.
- You can customize the yum yum sauce according to your taste by mixing mayo with sriracha or chili crisp for added spice.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute panko breadcrumbs and buns with gluten-free alternatives.
- The sesame slaw can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated to enhance the flavors.
- If you don’t have panko, regular breadcrumbs can be used but may slightly alter the texture.
