This Cinnamon Sugar Donut Sweet Bread recipe captures the delightful flavors of a classic cinnamon sugar cake donut in loaf form. Moist, tender, and swirled with a cinnamon molasses mixture, it’s topped with a luscious cinnamon sugar butter glaze that perfectly mimics the taste and texture of your favorite bakery treat.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Bread Batter

  • ¼ cup Canola Oil
  • ¼ cup Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 large Eggs, room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ cup Buttermilk
  • ½ tsp Molasses
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon

Topping

  • ½ cup Unsalted Butter, melted
  • ¼ cup Light Brown Sugar, packed
  • ¼ cup Granulated Sugar
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the softened butter, canola oil, and sugar until well combined.
  3. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Incorporate the eggs and vanilla extract into the mixture, beating until smooth and creamy.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients with Buttermilk: Slowly add the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt) alternately with the buttermilk to the wet mixture, beating well after each addition. Scrape sides of the bowl to ensure even mixing and break up any lumps.
  5. Prepare Cinnamon Molasses Mixture: Transfer about ½ to ¾ cup of the batter into a separate small bowl. Add cinnamon and molasses, stirring well to combine.
  6. Layer the Batter: Spoon half of the plain batter into the bottom of the prepared loaf pan. Then spoon half of the cinnamon molasses batter over the plain batter layer. Next, spread the remaining plain batter evenly over the molasses mixture, and finally spoon the rest of the molasses batter on top.
  7. Create Swirls: Using a knife, gently swirl the molasses mixture into the plain bread batter to create a marbled effect.
  8. Bake: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool and Remove from Pan: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Loosen the edges with a knife and carefully remove the bread from the pan.
  10. Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Topping: In a shallow dish, mix cinnamon, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.
  11. Apply Butter and Sugar Coating: Dip each side of the bread loaf into the melted butter, spooning some over the edges. Then sprinkle generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture, making sure to coat the top as well for maximum flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs to ensure the batter mixes evenly.
  • Make sure to swirl the cinnamon molasses batter gently to create distinct layers without overmixing.
  • Test doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the bread; it should come out clean.
  • For best results, serve the bread slightly warm to enjoy the gooey cinnamon sugar topping.
  • This bread stores well in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
