This flavorful Cowboy Butter is a zesty, herb-infused compound butter perfect for enhancing grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or fresh bread. Made with creamy salted butter blended with fresh parsley, garlic, lemon juice and zest, and a kick of red pepper flakes and black pepper, it adds a rich and spicy kick to your dishes. Quick to prepare and easy to store, this butter can be refrigerated and used as needed to elevate any meal.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes plus 4 hours chilling
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter (2 sticks), at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely minced
  • A pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Coarsely ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 teaspoons fresh garlic, finely minced
  • Juice and zest of ½ lemon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the butter: Allow the butter to come to room temperature before starting to ensure it beats easily and blends well with the other ingredients.
  2. Beat the butter: In the bowl of a mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, add the softened butter and beat it until creamy and smooth.
  3. Add flavorings: Add the finely minced parsley, red pepper flakes, coarsely ground black pepper, minced garlic, lemon juice, and lemon zest to the creamy butter.
  4. Mix thoroughly: Beat the mixture until all the ingredients are well combined and evenly distributed throughout the butter.
  5. Shape the butter: Scrape down the sides of the mixer bowl, then turn the flavored butter out onto a piece of parchment paper.
  6. Form a log: Using the back of a spatula, spread the mixture into a log shape on the parchment paper.
  7. Wrap the butter: Roll the parchment paper up around the butter log and twist the ends tightly like a candy wrapper to secure it.
  8. Chill: Refrigerate the wrapped butter log for at least 4 hours to allow the flavors to meld together before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the butter is fully softened but not melted for best texture.
  • This butter can be stored in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks or frozen up to 3 months.
  • Use this Cowboy Butter to top grilled steak, roasted chicken, steamed vegetables, or spread on warm bread.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on your preferred spice level.
  • If you don’t have a stand mixer, you can mix the ingredients by hand with a wooden spoon or silicone spatula.
