Ingredients
Dough
- 2 (8-ounce) cans refrigerated crescent rolls
Filling
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/8 teaspoon almond extract (divided)
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup sliced almonds
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- Milk, as needed (about 1-2 tablespoons)
- ¼ teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a deep round baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the Dough: Remove the crescent roll dough from its packaging. Lay the sections side by side on a clean, flat surface to form a large rectangle. Pinch the seams together to create one large sheet of dough.
- Brush with Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, stir together the melted butter and ¼ teaspoon almond extract. Brush this mixture evenly over the entire surface of the dough.
- Add Cinnamon Sugar and Almonds: Combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon in a bowl. Sprinkle this cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough, then sprinkle with sliced almonds for added texture and flavor.
- Roll and Slice the Dough: Starting at one long edge, tightly roll the dough towards the opposite side to form a long log. Pinch the seam along the length of the log to seal it (do not seal the ends). Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into 9 equal slices.
- Arrange and Bake: Place each cinnamon roll cut-side down in the prepared baking dish, arranging them side by side in a single layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown and cooked through.
- Prepare the Glaze: While the buns bake, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk (adding 1 tablespoon at a time until the glaze is pourable), and ¼ teaspoon almond extract until smooth.
- Glaze and Serve: Once the cinnamon buns are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the almond glaze over the top. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture enjoyment.
Notes
- For a nuttier flavor, you can toast the almonds lightly before sprinkling them on the rolls.
- If you prefer a stronger almond flavor, increase the almond extract slightly but do not exceed ½ teaspoon to avoid bitterness.
- These buns are best served fresh but can be reheated gently in the microwave or oven.
- Use milk substitutes like almond milk for a dairy-free version.
- The glaze thickness can be adjusted by adding more or less milk to achieve your preferred consistency.
