These Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Cutlets are a quick and delicious meal made using simple ingredients and cooked to perfection in an air fryer. The chicken is coated in a seasoned breadcrumb mixture, resulting in a crunchy, flavorful exterior while staying juicy inside. Ready in just 20 minutes, this recipe is perfect for a healthy weeknight dinner.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 4 chicken cutlets (or chicken breasts cut in half)

Breading and Seasoning

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Pat the chicken dry thoroughly using a paper towel to ensure the breading adheres well. Season both sides of the chicken cutlets with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Mix the egg wash and breadcrumb coating: In one small bowl, whisk the eggs until smooth. In another container, combine the Italian breadcrumbs with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  3. Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and let it preheat while you prepare the chicken.
  4. Bread the chicken: Dip each chicken cutlet into the beaten eggs, flipping to coat both sides. Let any excess egg drip off, then press the chicken into the breadcrumb mixture, coating both sides evenly. Shake off any excess breadcrumbs. Repeat with remaining cutlets.
  5. Cook in the air fryer: Place the breaded chicken cutlets in a single layer inside the air fryer basket or tray, ensuring they don’t overlap. Cook at 400°F for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping the cutlets halfway through to ensure even crisping. The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and has a golden, crispy crust.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, spray the breaded chicken lightly with cooking spray before air frying.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper quantity according to your preferred spice level or omit it for a milder flavor.
  • Use a meat thermometer to make sure chicken is cooked safely to 165°F.
  • These cutlets can be served with a side of salad, pasta, or your favorite dipping sauce.
  • Air fryer temperatures may vary, so monitor the chicken towards the end of cooking to prevent overcooking.
