Ingredients
Pasta
- 16 ounces large elbow macaroni noodles
Cheese
- 12 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded
- 4 ounces Gruyere cheese, shredded
Dairy and Fats
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 12 ounce can evaporated milk
- 1 3/4 cups half and half
Seasonings
- 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 teaspoons Kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni noodles according to package directions, but reduce the cooking time by 1 minute to keep the pasta slightly under al dente. For example, if the package says 6 minutes, cook for 5 minutes. Drain the pasta thoroughly and transfer to the crock pot insert.
- Add ingredients to crock pot: To the cooked pasta, add 12 ounces of shredded sharp cheddar cheese, 4 ounces of shredded Gruyere cheese, 1/4 cup of melted butter, the 12 ounce can of evaporated milk, 1 3/4 cups of half and half, 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 2 teaspoons Kosher salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
- Combine and cook: Stir all the ingredients together thoroughly to combine well. Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Stir every 30 minutes during cooking to help the sauce become smooth and creamy and prevent any sticking.
- Final seasoning: After cooking, taste the macaroni and cheese and adjust the seasoning as needed with additional salt and pepper to your preference.
- Serve and enjoy: Spoon into bowls and serve warm. For best results, leave a review or 5-star rating if you enjoyed the recipe.
