These Deviled Brownies put a whimsical twist on classic fudgy brownies by combining a soft brownie base with a creamy cream cheese frosting piped like deviled eggs. Perfect for festive occasions or a fun dessert presentation, this recipe is easy to prepare with a boxed brownie mix and simple ingredients, resulting in delicious treats that serve a crowd.

  • Total Time: 42 minutes
  • Yield: 24 servings

Ingredients

Brownie Batter

  • 18.3 ounce box fudgy brownie mix
  • 2 large eggs
  • ⅔ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons water

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 teaspoons festive sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the silicone molds: Lightly spray 3 silicone molds with 8 egg-shaped cavities each using nonstick spray to prevent sticking and make removal easier after baking.
  2. Make the brownie batter: Follow the instructions on the boxed brownie mix, combining the mix with 2 large eggs, ⅔ cup vegetable oil, and 3 tablespoons water. Stir until smooth and evenly mixed.
  3. Spoon batter into molds: Using a cookie scoop or spoon, fill each egg-shaped cavity about three-quarters full with the prepared brownie batter, ensuring even portions.
  4. Bake the brownies: Bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter. Check a few minutes early to avoid overbaking as ovens vary.
  5. Create cavities for frosting: Immediately after removing brownies from the oven and while still warm, gently press a small cavity into the center of each brownie using the back of a tablespoon measure. This will hold the frosting later. Set brownies aside to cool completely in the molds before removal.
  6. Make the frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract with a handheld mixer until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and well combined.
  7. Pipe the frosting: Transfer the cream cheese frosting to a piping bag fitted with a 1M star tip. Pipe a tall swirl into each brownie cavity to mimic the look of deviled eggs. If the frosting is too soft, chill it for about 30 minutes to firm up but be careful not to over-chill, which can make it too stiff to pipe.
  8. Add sprinkles and serve: Top each frosted brownie with festive sprinkles for decoration. For presentation, place the finished brownies on a deviled egg tray to enhance the fun effect and serve.

Notes

  • Using silicone molds helps with easy removal and gives the brownies their unique deviled egg shape.
  • If you prefer, you can make homemade brownies instead of using a boxed mix.
  • Ensure the cream cheese is well softened before whipping the frosting to avoid lumps.
  • The frosting can be chilled briefly if too soft but avoid chilling too long to maintain pipeability.
  • These brownies are best served at room temperature but can be stored refrigerated for up to 3 days.
