These Easy Cheeseburger Sliders are a crowd-pleasing appetizer or meal made with caramelized onions, seasoned ground beef, cheddar cheese, and King’s Hawaiian rolls baked to golden perfection. Served with a tangy homemade burger sauce, they come together quickly on a sheet pan for easy entertaining or family dinners.

  • Total Time: 27 minutes
  • Yield: 12 sliders (serves 12)

Ingredients

Slider Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small sweet onion (finely diced)
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (85–90%)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 package King’s Hawaiian Rolls (12 count)
  • 12 slices cheddar cheese (or 6 ounces shredded, about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 12 dill pickle chips
  • 3 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1/2 tablespoon sesame seeds

Burger Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 teaspoons ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon pickle juice (or 1 teaspoon pickle relish, sweet or dill)
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon chili powder
  • Pinch of fresh ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  2. Caramelize the Onions: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the finely diced sweet onion and sauté for 6 to 8 minutes until they become soft and caramelized, releasing a rich sweetness. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Cook the Beef: Using the same skillet, add the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper. Cook over medium-high heat, breaking up the meat with a spatula, for about 6 to 7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease, then stir in the caramelized onions evenly.
  4. Prepare the Rolls: Take the King’s Hawaiian rolls and using a sharp serrated knife, slice them in half horizontally, ensuring the tops and bottoms remain intact. Place the bottom halves on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Assemble the Sliders: Layer six slices of cheddar cheese over the bottom buns. Evenly spread the cooked beef and onion mixture on top of the cheese. Add the remaining six cheese slices over the beef, then distribute the dill pickle chips evenly. Finally, cover with the top halves of the rolls.
  6. Butter & Bake: Melt the butter in a microwave-safe dish and stir in the sesame seeds. Brush this butter mixture generously over the tops of the assembled sliders. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  7. Make the Burger Sauce: While the sliders bake, prepare the sauce by mixing the mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, pickle juice, garlic powder, chili powder, and a pinch of black pepper in a small bowl. Stir well until smooth and combined.
  8. Serve & Enjoy: Once baked, slice the sliders individually and serve warm with the homemade burger sauce for dipping or spreading.

Notes

  • You can use shredded cheddar if you prefer instead of slices.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version of the sliders.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a slice of tomato or lettuce when serving.
  • Ensure to drain the excess grease from the cooked beef to prevent soggy rolls.
  • To save time, caramelize the onions and cook the beef a day ahead and refrigerate.
  • If sesame seeds are unavailable, omit or substitute with poppy seeds for topping.
