  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Shrimp

  • 12 oz Shrimp (or Prawns, peeled, deveined, tail on)
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper powder (optional)

Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 8 to 10 cloves Garlic (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne powder (or Red chile powder)
  • 1 Lime juice (or lemon)
  • Zest of 1 lime or lemon
  • 2 tbsp Parsley (or Cilantro/Coriander leaves, finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup Chicken stock (or any stock of your choice)

Instructions

  1. Cook shrimp: In a cast iron skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper powder if using. Add the shrimp and cook for 1 to 2 minutes on each side until the shrimp curls up and turns pink. Remove shrimp from skillet and set aside on a plate.
  2. Make garlic butter sauce: In the same skillet over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Add the finely chopped garlic and sauté gently, stirring frequently, until the garlic turns light brown and fragrant, approximately 2 to 5 minutes on medium to medium-low heat.
  3. Add remaining sauce ingredients: Stir in 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder, the zest of one lime, lime juice, finely chopped parsley, and 1/4 cup chicken stock. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it reduce by half to concentrate the flavors.
  4. Combine shrimp and sauce: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and gently toss to coat them thoroughly with the garlic butter sauce.
  5. Serve: Plate the shrimp, garnish with additional parsley and lime wedges if desired, and serve immediately for a delicious meal.

Notes

  • Use fresh shrimp for best flavor and texture; thaw frozen shrimp properly before cooking.
  • Adjust cayenne powder according to your heat preference.
  • Chicken stock can be substituted with vegetable stock for a pescatarian option.
  • Serve this dish with crusty bread, rice, or pasta to soak up the flavorful garlic butter sauce.
  • Cooking garlic gently over medium-low heat prevents burning and bitterness.
