Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 sweet yellow onion, chopped
- 6 oz provolone cheese, diced (or more to taste)
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1.5 tsp garlic powder
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground pepper
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 6 sub rolls, 6 inches each
Garnish (Optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Brown the beef and vegetables: In a large skillet over high heat, cook the ground beef along with the chopped onions and green bell pepper until the beef is fully cooked through and the vegetables have softened. Drain off any excess fat and juices from the skillet to prevent the sandwich from becoming soggy.
- Prepare the cheese mixture: Dice the provolone cheese into small pieces. In the skillet with the cooked beef mixture, gently stir in the diced provolone, softened cream cheese, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and ground pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer on low heat for about 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cheeses melt and combine into a creamy filling. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Slice the sub rolls in half and spoon a generous amount of the warm ground beef philly cheesesteak mixture into each roll.
- Optional broil for extra cheese melt: If desired, top each sandwich with additional provolone cheese. Place the assembled sandwiches under the oven broiler for 2 to 3 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.
- Add garnish and serve: Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the sandwiches for a burst of color and fresh flavor. Serve the sandwiches immediately while warm and enjoy your quick and tasty Philly cheesesteak meal.
Notes
- Be sure to drain excess fat after browning the beef to keep the sandwiches from becoming greasy.
- For a spicier variation, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the beef mixture.
- You can substitute provolone with American or mozzarella cheese if preferred.
- These sandwiches are best served fresh but can be wrapped and refrigerated for up to 2 days.
- Using sub rolls that are fresh and soft enhances the sandwich experience.
