Firecracker ground chicken is a quick and flavorful weeknight dinner featuring ground chicken cooked in a spicy, slightly sweet firecracker sauce. Ready in just 15 minutes, this meal pairs perfectly with rice and steamed veggies, making it a delicious, healthy option ideal for meal prep and busy evenings.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Firecracker Sauce

  • ½ cup buffalo sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • ¼ cup honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste

Chicken

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 2-3 green onions, thinly sliced

To Serve

  • Cooked rice
  • Steamed veggies of choice

Instructions

  1. Mix Sauce: In a small bowl, combine buffalo sauce, soy sauce, honey or brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ground ginger, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create the firecracker sauce.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil. Once hot, add the ground chicken and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until it is almost fully cooked.
  3. Add Sauce: Pour the firecracker sauce over the chicken in the skillet. Stir to combine and let it cook together for a couple of minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and infuse the chicken with flavor. Sprinkle sliced green onions on top.
  4. Serve: Spoon the firecracker ground chicken over cooked rice and serve alongside steamed vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Adjust the spiciness by using more or less buffalo sauce according to your heat preference.
  • For a lower sodium option, use low-sodium soy sauce and reduce added salt.
  • This dish can be meal-prepped by storing the cooked chicken, rice, and veggies separately and reheating before serving.
  • Use brown sugar as a sweetener alternative if honey is not available.
  • Adding fresh ginger instead of ground ginger can impart a fresher flavor.
