Ingredients
Meat
- 3 pound chuck roast
Seasoning and Broth
- 1 envelope onion soup mix
- 1 cup beef broth
Vegetables
- 3 medium onions, sliced
Instructions
- Prepare the Base: Place the sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker and pour the beef broth over them, creating a flavorful base for the roast to cook on.
- Season the Roast: Rub the chuck roast evenly on all sides with the onion soup mix. Place the seasoned roast on top of the onions in the slow cooker. If there’s any leftover soup mix, sprinkle it over the roast to enhance the flavor.
- Slow Cook: Cover and cook on low heat for 6 to 12 hours, allowing the meat to become tender and absorb the rich onion and broth flavors.
- Shred the Meat: Once cooked, remove the roast and shred it with forks, discarding any large pieces of fat. Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker and mix with the onions and broth for serving.
Notes
- Cooking time can be adjusted based on your slow cooker’s heat settings; longer cooking results in more tender meat.
- The shredded beef is excellent for sandwiches, tacos, or served alongside mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
- Use a lean chuck roast to reduce excess fat but still maintain tenderness.
- If you prefer stronger onion flavor, add an extra onion or more onion soup mix.
