A quick and fresh homemade salsa recipe that comes together in just 5 minutes using simple, vibrant ingredients. Perfect as a dip or topping, this salsa combines ripe tomatoes, tangy lime, fragrant cilantro, and a bit of heat from jalapeno for a flavorful and versatile condiment.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

Produce

  • 1 lb Tomatoes (~4 medium; halved)
  • 1 small Onion (cut into large chunks)
  • 1 cup Fresh cilantro
  • 1 medium Jalapeno (seeds removed and coarsely chopped)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (coarsely chopped)

Other

  • 1 tbsp Lime juice
  • 1/4 tsp Sea salt (or more to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Begin by washing and halving the tomatoes, peeling and chunking the onion, removing seeds and chopping the jalapeno, peeling and chopping the garlic cloves, and picking fresh cilantro. These fresh ingredients create the bright flavor of the salsa.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Place the tomatoes, onion, cilantro, jalapeno, garlic, lime juice, and sea salt into a food processor. Make sure the ingredients are loosely packed to allow even chopping.
  3. Pulse to Desired Consistency: Pulse the food processor a few times until you reach your preferred salsa texture. Check for seasoning a few pulses before finishing to avoid over-processing. Adjust salt if needed and pulse again gently to maintain a fresh, chunky consistency without turning the salsa mushy.

Notes

  • For a spicier salsa, include jalapeno seeds or add a second jalapeno.
  • Adjust salt and lime juice to your taste preference after blending.
  • Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 3 days to allow flavors to meld.
  • Great as a dip with chips, topping for tacos, or accompaniment to grilled meats.
  • Use a sharp knife and fresh ingredients for best flavor and safety when handling jalapenos.
