Instructions
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together all the ingredients specific to the flavor you are making until smooth. For the fruit flavor, blend the mixture in a high-powered blender or food processor to achieve a uniform consistency. For other flavors, whisking by hand is preferred for the best texture.
- Chill Mixture: Ensure the mixture’s temperature is between 40-45°F (4-7°C). If it isn’t, cover the bowl with plastic wrap flush against the yogurt surface and place it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes until it reaches this cool temperature but does not freeze. Ingredients taken directly from the refrigerator may already be ready for churning.
- Churn the Yogurt: Pour the chilled mixture into a pre-frozen ice cream maker bowl. Churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until the mixture reaches a soft-serve ice cream texture, usually about 15-25 minutes. If you don’t have an ice cream maker, transfer the mixture to a freezer-safe container and proceed to the next step.
- Freeze to Firmness: Freeze the churned or mixed yogurt for at least 4 hours or overnight until it is firm. For mixtures not churned in an ice cream maker, stir vigorously every 30 minutes during the first 4 hours to improve texture and prevent ice crystals.
- Serve: Remove frozen yogurt from the freezer 15-20 minutes before serving to soften slightly for easier scooping and creamier mouthfeel.
Notes
- Using an ice cream maker is recommended for the creamiest texture but not mandatory.
- Substitute heavy cream with half & half or full-fat coconut milk for dairy-free or lighter alternatives.
- Adjust sweetness by varying honey or using sugar-free alternatives as preferred.
- Frozen fruit works best for the fruit flavor but fresh fruit may be used if blended and slightly chilled first.
- For best results, ensure all ingredients are well chilled before mixing.
