  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Spice Mix

  • 3 teaspoons salt (or more to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons paprika

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds cubed steak (such as sirloin or NY strip)
  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed into small bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon browning sauce (optional, for color)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided

Garlic Herb Butter

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Garnish

  • Chopped parsley
  • Red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prepare Spice Mixture: In a small bowl, combine salt, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and paprika. Divide this spice blend into two equal portions and set aside for seasoning steak and potatoes separately.
  2. Make Garlic Herb Butter: In another small bowl, mix softened unsalted butter with minced garlic, chopped parsley, and a teaspoon of salt until well combined. Set aside for later use.
  3. Season the Steak: Place the cubed steak in a large bowl. Add Worcestershire sauce, optional browning sauce, and half of the prepared spice mix. Toss thoroughly to coat all pieces evenly with the marinade and spices.
  4. Parboil Potatoes: Bring water to a boil in a pot, then add the cubed Yukon gold potatoes. Boil for 5 to 6 minutes until they start to become tender but are not fully cooked. Drain and allow them to cool slightly.
  5. Season Potatoes: Once cooled, toss the parboiled potatoes with the remaining half of the spice mixture and 1 tablespoon olive oil to coat evenly.
  6. Sear the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add the cubed steak and sear for 5 to 7 minutes, turning occasionally until browned on all sides. Remove steak from skillet and set aside on a plate.
  7. Cook the Potatoes: In the same skillet, add the seasoned parboiled potatoes. Cook over medium-high heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are golden brown and fork-tender.
  8. Combine and Finish: Return the seared steak to the skillet with the potatoes. Add the garlic herb butter and toss everything together, allowing the steak and potatoes to soak up the rich, buttery flavors.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped parsley and red pepper flakes over the dish before serving for a fresh flavor and slight heat.

Notes

  • Parboiling the potatoes ensures they cook evenly and achieve a crispy exterior when pan-fried.
  • Adjust the amount of salt and red pepper flakes based on your taste preferences.
  • Using Yukon gold potatoes provides a creamy texture that holds well during cooking.
  • Browning sauce is optional but adds a deeper color and slight richness to the steak.
  • For best results, use a heavy-bottom skillet or cast iron pan for even heat distribution.
