Ingredients
Herb Butter
- 1 cup salted butter (2 sticks), plus more for greasing baking dish
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary, crushed
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
Rolls
- 20 frozen dinner rolls (thaw, rise, and bake)
- Flaky salt, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare Herb Butter: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and add the crushed dried rosemary, oregano, thyme, and minced garlic. Cook gently until the butter is fully melted and the herbs and garlic become fragrant. Remove from heat and transfer the butter mixture to a bowl.
- Grease Baking Dish: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish generously with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Coat Rolls: Working one roll at a time, roll each frozen dinner roll in the warm herb butter, ensuring they’re well coated. Place the rolls in the prepared baking dish spaced about 1½ inches apart.
- Rise: Allow the rolls to rise at room temperature for 4 to 5 hours, or until they have doubled in size. This slow rise enhances their soft texture and flavor.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) while the rolls are nearing the end of their rise time.
- Bake Rolls: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Final Butter Brush and Serve: Remove the rolls from the oven. Melt any remaining butter in the microwave or on low heat on the stovetop. Using a pastry brush, generously brush the melted butter over the warm rolls. Sprinkle them with flaky salt and serve immediately.
Notes
- Ensure rolls are spaced apart during rising to allow proper expansion.
- Use fresh or quality frozen Rhodes rolls for best texture and rise.
- You can adjust herbs to taste, or substitute fresh herbs if preferred, but reduce quantities slightly.
- Make sure to allow sufficient rise time at room temperature to achieve fluffy rolls.
- The flaky salt adds texture and balances the richness of the butter; do not skip for best flavor.
