Crispy and flavorful homemade garlic toast made in the oven with fresh garlic, olive oil, and optional parmesan cheese. This quick and easy recipe yields perfectly toasted baguette slices ideal for appetizers, sides, or snacks.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 30 servings

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 baguette
  • 3 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven broiler: Preheat your oven’s broiler to medium and position the rack in the second to highest setting, about 6 inches from the heat source.
  2. Slice and oil the bread: Cut the baguette on a bias into thirty roughly 1/3 inch thick pieces, discarding the heels. Arrange the slices on a baking sheet and brush one side of each slice with olive oil. Place the baking sheet in the oven for about 3 minutes until edges start to brown.
  3. Rub with garlic and flip: Remove the bread from the oven and rub the toasted side of each slice with the cut side of the garlic cloves to impart flavor. Flip each slice over, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and, if using, add shredded parmesan cheese on top.
  4. Toast again: Return the baking sheet to the oven and cook for another 2 minutes until the garlic toast is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Remove from oven and serve immediately for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Adjust garlic quantity based on your taste preference for stronger or milder garlic flavor.
  • Use freshly grated parmesan for best melting and flavor.
  • Serve garlic toast warm for optimal crispness.
  • For a dairy-free version, omit the parmesan cheese.
  • Make sure to watch the bread closely under the broiler to prevent burning.
