This homemade Instant Pot spaghetti recipe offers a quick and convenient way to prepare a classic Italian favorite using the pressure cooking function of the Instant Pot. With lean ground beef, a blend of Italian seasonings, and a combination of tomato and marinara sauces, this one-pot pasta meal delivers rich, comforting flavors in just 35 minutes.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (or ground turkey)

Liquids

  • 4 cups water
  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 25 ounce jar marinara sauce

Spices and Seasonings

  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Pasta

  • 16 ounces uncooked spaghetti (white or whole wheat)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Meat: Turn on the Instant Pot sauté function and add the ground beef. Cook, crumbling with a spoon or spatula, until browned. Then turn the Instant Pot off and drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add Seasonings and Water: Add the water, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the pot. Stir until well combined, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom.
  3. Arrange Spaghetti: Break spaghetti noodles in half and lay them in the pot in different directions to prevent sticking. Do not stir after adding the pasta.
  4. Add Sauces: Pour the tomato sauce and marinara sauce over the spaghetti noodles evenly. Do not stir the mixture.
  5. Seal the Instant Pot: Close the Instant Pot lid and set the steam valve to the sealing position.
  6. Pressure Cook: Pressure cook at high pressure for 7 minutes if using white spaghetti (cook time 9-11 mins) or 5 minutes if using whole wheat spaghetti (cook time 7-9 mins). The Instant Pot will take about 15-20 minutes to come to pressure before timing down.
  7. Quick Release Pressure: When cooking time ends, perform a quick release by moving the steam release valve to venting carefully. Wait for all steam to escape and the pressure pin to drop.
  8. Stir and Rest: Remove the lid and stir the spaghetti. Some liquid will remain; let the pasta rest for 3-5 minutes to absorb the excess liquid, then serve.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • Breaking spaghetti in half and layering in different directions prevents clumping during cooking.
  • Do not stir after adding pasta and sauce to avoid triggering the burn warning on the Instant Pot.
  • Letting the pasta rest after cooking helps absorb excess liquid for optimal texture.
  • Adjust seasonings to taste if desired.
