Ingredients
For the Taco Meat
- 1 teaspoon oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 lb lean ground beef or ground turkey
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
For the Tacos
- 10 flour tortillas, taco sized
- 8 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- Olive oil spray or avocado oil spray
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper and lightly mist it with your choice of oil to prevent sticking and help crisp the tacos.
- Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 teaspoon of oil and diced onion. Cook until the onion softens, then add 1 lb of lean ground beef or turkey. Using a wooden spoon, break up the meat as it cooks until no longer pink. Drain excess grease if necessary. Stir in 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning and cook for an additional 3 minutes to infuse flavor.
- Assemble the Tacos: Lay out each flour tortilla and spoon about 4 tablespoons of the cooked taco meat onto each. Sprinkle with shredded sharp cheddar cheese, then fold each tortilla in half. Place the folded tacos on the prepared sheet pan, spacing them evenly. Lightly mist the tortillas with olive or avocado oil spray to help them crisp during baking.
- First Bake: Bake the tacos in the preheated oven at 400°F for 20 minutes. This initial baking melts the cheese and begins crisping the tortillas.
- Flip and Finish Baking: After 20 minutes, carefully flip each taco and mist again lightly with oil spray to encourage even crisping. Return the sheet pan to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the tacos are crispy and golden on both sides.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately with your favorite toppings such as salsa, sour cream, guacamole, or fresh cilantro for a delicious and fun taco meal.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey for ground beef for a leaner option.
- Feel free to add extra veggies such as diced bell peppers or jalapeños to the meat mixture for added flavor and texture.
- To make this recipe gluten-free, use corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas if desired.
- If you prefer a spicier taco, increase the amount of taco seasoning or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- Leftover tacos can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best crispness.
