Ingredients
Ingredients
- 500 g Raw shelled peanuts (with red skins)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 180ºC (160ºC fan), 355ºF, or gas mark 4 to prepare for roasting the peanuts.
- Roast the Peanuts: Spread the raw peanuts in a single layer on a baking tray and roast for 15 to 18 minutes until they turn lightly golden inside, indicating they are cooked through.
- Check Flavor: Carefully taste a cooled peanut half to ensure it has the desired roasted flavor; if not, roast for a few more minutes and test again to reach your preferred taste.
- Cool the Peanuts: Once roasted, let the peanuts cool completely before moving on to the next step.
- Sterilize the Jar: Prepare a 0.35 liter (11.8 US fl oz) jar by sterilizing it, ensuring your peanut butter will be stored safely and stay fresh.
- Pulse the Peanuts: Place the cooled peanuts into a food processor or high-powered blender and pulse on the lowest speed for 30 seconds to 1 minute until the peanuts are chopped to your liking.
- Set Aside for Crunchy Texture: If you prefer crunchy peanut butter, remove 6 tablespoons of the chopped peanuts and set them aside. Skip this step for smooth peanut butter.
- Blend to Smooth: Increase the blender speed to highest, blending continuously while stopping occasionally to scrape down the sides. Continue until the consistency resembles smooth peanut butter, which may take about 8 minutes.
- Add Crunchy Peanuts (Optional): If making crunchy peanut butter, remove the blade and mix the reserved chopped peanuts back into the smooth butter.
- Jar the Peanut Butter: Spoon the finished peanut butter into the sterilized jar and securely screw on the lid.
- Storage: Store your homemade peanut butter in a cool, dark place and consume within 3 months for optimal freshness and taste.
Notes
- Sterilizing the jar before storing ensures your peanut butter stays fresh longer and prevents mold or spoilage.
- Roasting time may vary slightly depending on your oven, so keep an eye on the peanuts to avoid burning.
- The total yield of peanut butter is approximately 400 ml from 500 g of raw peanuts.
- If you want a saltier or sweeter peanut butter, you can add salt or honey after blending, but this recipe focuses on pure peanut flavor.
- Use a high-powered blender or food processor for best results and smoothest texture.
