Homemade Uncrustables are a delightful and easy-to-make no-bake sandwich treat featuring soft whole wheat bread filled with creamy peanut butter and your favorite jelly or jam. Perfect for quick snacks or lunchboxes, these sealed sandwiches can be customized with fresh fruit slices for added freshness and flavor.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving (1 sandwich)

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 slices whole wheat bread (or bread of your choice; Nature’s Own recommended)
  • 1-2 Tablespoons peanut butter (or other nut butter)
  • 1 Tablespoon jelly or jam (your favorite flavor)
  • Optional: thinly sliced fresh fruit (such as strawberries or bananas)

Instructions

  1. Lay out bread: Place the two slices of bread on a clean, flat surface. If you’re using fresh fruit, thinly slice it now and have it ready.
  2. Spread nut butter: Evenly spread 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter across one slice of bread, making sure to cover the entire surface for consistent flavor.
  3. Spread jam: Spread 1 tablespoon of your chosen jelly or jam evenly over the other slice of bread.
  4. Add fruit (optional): If including fresh fruit slices, layer them on top of the peanut butter on the first slice.
  5. Top: Carefully place the jelly-covered slice on top of the peanut butter slice, aligning the edges precisely.
  6. Press down: Gently press the sandwich to evenly distribute the fillings and help the two slices stick together.
  7. Cut: Using a round sandwich sealer, cookie cutter, or a glass, cut out a circle from the sandwich, removing all crusts. Press firmly for a clean cut.
  8. Seal: If using a sandwich sealer, add the cut sandwich piece to the sealer and press down to seal tightly. If using a cookie cutter or glass, press the edges firmly with a fork to crimp and seal the sandwich, ensuring no filling can leak out.

Notes

  • For allergy-friendly options, substitute peanut butter with almond butter, sunflower seed butter, or soy butter.
  • Use gluten-free bread to make this recipe gluten-free.
  • Store the sealed sandwiches in an airtight container or plastic wrap to maintain freshness.
  • Adding fresh fruit slices enhances texture and flavor but is optional.
  • These sandwiches can be frozen for longer storage; thaw before eating.
