Ingredients
Salmon and Seasoning
- 2 ½ tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 4 Salmon fillets (4-6 oz each)
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon pepper
Honey Garlic Glaze
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- ⅓ cup honey
- 2 teaspoons lemon zest
- ¼ cup lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 teaspoons fresh grated ginger root
- 1 green onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- Parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the skillet: Place a cast iron skillet over medium heat and allow it to warm up.
- Add oil: Pour ½ tablespoon of olive oil into the hot pan, letting it shimmer to ensure it’s ready for cooking.
- Season salmon: Lightly season each salmon fillet with salt and pepper evenly on both sides.
- Cook salmon – first side: Carefully place the fillets skin-side down (if skin on) in the skillet. Cook for 4 minutes without disturbing to develop a good sear.
- Cook salmon – second side: Flip the fillets gently and cook for another 4 minutes or until salmon reaches desired doneness.
- Mix glaze ingredients: While salmon cooks, combine remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil, minced garlic, honey, lemon zest, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, rice vinegar, fresh grated ginger, chopped green onion, and cornstarch in a small bowl. Stir to blend well.
- Remove salmon and keep warm: Transfer cooked salmon to a plate and cover loosely with foil to retain heat.
- Cook glaze in skillet: Using the same skillet, add the prepared glaze mixture. Stir continuously for about 1-2 minutes until the glaze thickens and becomes shiny.
- Coat salmon with glaze: Return the salmon fillets to the pan and spoon the thickened honey garlic glaze over them to coat thoroughly.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle fresh parsley over the salmon and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use fresh ginger and garlic for the best flavor in the glaze.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to your preferred spice level.
- Ensure the skillet is hot before adding salmon to get a nicely seared crust.
- Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if your skillet is small.
- For skin-on fillets, start cooking skin-side down for a crispier texture.
- To verify doneness, salmon should flake easily with a fork and be opaque inside.
