  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies

Ingredients

Cookie Dough

  • 1 (17.5 ounce) bag of sugar cookie mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 large egg

Jello Powders

  • 2 tablespoons cherry or strawberry jello dry powder
  • 2 tablespoons orange jello dry powder
  • 2 tablespoons lemon jello dry powder
  • 2 tablespoons lime jello dry powder
  • 2 tablespoons berry blue jello dry powder
  • 2 tablespoons grape jello dry powder

Topping

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line two large cookie sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Make the Sugar Cookie Dough: Prepare the sugar cookie dough according to the package directions, usually mixing the sugar cookie mix, softened butter, and egg until smooth and fully combined.
  3. Divide and Color Dough: Separate the dough into six equal portions. To each portion, add one type of jello powder (cherry or strawberry, orange, lemon, lime, berry blue, grape) and mix thoroughly until the dough is evenly colored and infused with the fruity flavor.
  4. Form Cookies: Divide each colored portion into four equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball. Then, roll each ball in granulated sugar to coat.
  5. Arrange and Bake: Place the sugar-coated cookie dough balls on the prepared cookie sheets, spacing them at least 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
  6. Bake: Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 11 to 13 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown.
  7. Cool: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This helps them set and avoid breaking.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter to ensure the dough mixes properly and yields a tender cookie.
  • Feel free to use your favorite jello flavors or mix and match powders to create custom color combinations.
  • To prevent sticking, make sure to line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  • The granulated sugar coating adds a subtle crunch and sparkle; you can skip it if you prefer softer edges.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
