Ingredients
Turkey Burger Mixture
- 1 lb (93% lean) ground turkey
- 1 small yellow onion (or white onion)
- 2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 2 – 3 large garlic cloves (minced)
- ¼ cup fresh parsley (finely chopped)
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ¾ – 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Grate the onion: Using a box grater, grate the small onion directly over a large mixing bowl containing the ground turkey. This technique releases the onion juices directly into the meat mixture, enhancing moisture and flavor.
- Add seasonings: Add the Dijon mustard, minced garlic, finely chopped fresh parsley, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to the bowl with the grated onion and ground turkey.
- Mix and form patties: Gently combine all ingredients with your hands until just incorporated, taking care not to overmix to keep the burgers tender. Divide the mixture into 4 or 5 equal portions and shape each into a patty. Press a small dimple into the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing up while cooking.
- Preheat the grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, approximately 375 to 400°F. Clean the grates and lightly oil them using a paper towel dipped in oil or spray with cooking spray. If cooking indoors, heat a grill pan or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat instead.
- Grill the patties: Place the patties on the hot grill and close the lid. Cook for 5 minutes until grill marks form and the patties release easily. Flip once and grill for another 5 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature reaches 165°F for safe consumption.
- Assemble the burgers: Remove the cooked patties from the grill. Serve on your choice of regular buns, lettuce wraps, or low-carb buns. Add desired toppings such as red onion, avocado, tomato, and lettuce to build your perfect burger.
Notes
- Do not overmix the turkey mixture to avoid dense burgers.
- Pressing a dimple in the center of each patty helps them cook evenly without puffing.
- Ensure the grill grates are well oiled to prevent sticking.
- Use a meat thermometer to confirm the burgers reach an internal temperature of 165°F for food safety.
- These burgers can also be cooked indoors using a grill pan or cast iron skillet.
- Customize toppings to your preference including low-carb options for a healthier meal.
