Ingredients
Lobster
- 8 tablespoons butter (divided)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1¼ pound lobster meat (fresh or thawed from frozen)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 whole lemon (juiced and divided)
Dressing
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Mixed In
- 2 ribs celery (chopped)
- 1 small shallot (sliced paper-thin)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
For Serving
- 4 New England-style lobster roll buns
Instructions
- Cook the lobster: Melt half of the butter over medium heat in a large, heavy-bottomed skillet. Add the minced garlic and lobster meat, season with salt, and squeeze half of the lemon juice over the lobster. Sauté until the lobster meat turns opaque and cooked through, then turn off the heat.
- Make the dressing: In a bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, chopped fresh chives, dill, parsley, and the juice from the remaining half of the lemon until well combined.
- Combine lobster with dressing: Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked lobster meat to a large mixing bowl. Add the chopped celery, thinly sliced shallot, and the prepared dressing. Toss gently until the lobster is evenly coated. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and freshly ground black pepper as needed. Set aside.
- Toast the rolls: Carefully split the lobster roll buns lengthwise, keeping the sides connected. Melt the remaining butter and brush it over the insides of the buns. Place the buns butter-side up under a broiler for 1-2 minutes or until they are golden and toasted. Watch closely to avoid burning.
- Assemble and serve: Evenly divide the lobster mixture among the toasted buns and serve immediately while warm for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Use fresh lobster meat for the best flavor, but frozen thawed lobster works well too.
- Broil the buns carefully, as they can brown very quickly.
- Adjust the herbs in the dressing according to preference; tarragon or basil can be good substitutes.
- Serve immediately after assembling to maintain the warm toasted texture of the buns and freshness of the lobster filling.
