Deliciously creamy Maple-Mascarpone Whipped Sweet Potatoes featuring roasted sweet potatoes blended with mascarpone cheese and sweetened naturally with maple syrup. This recipe elevates traditional mashed sweet potatoes with a smooth, luscious texture and subtly spiced with nutmeg, perfect as a comforting side dish for any meal.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds sweet potatoes – medium/large
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter – room temperature
  • 1/2 cup mascarpone cheese (or cream cheese)
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Kosher salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Roast Potatoes: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Poke the sweet potatoes several times with a fork or paring knife to allow steam to escape. Place them on a parchment-lined baking tray and roast for about 1 hour, or until a knife inserted into the thickest part meets no resistance. Remove from oven and let cool enough to handle.
  2. Peel and Prepare Potatoes: Peel the sweet potatoes, discarding the skins. Place the flesh into the base of a food processor.
  3. Add Ingredients and Blend: To the sweet potato flesh, add mascarpone cheese, maple syrup, ground nutmeg (if using), and a generous pinch of kosher salt. Pulse the mixture until smooth. Alternatively, use a handheld mixer or immersion blender to whip the potatoes until fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Adjust Seasoning and Heat: Taste and add additional salt as necessary. If the potatoes have cooled during blending, transfer them to a pot and warm over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until heated through.
  5. Serve: Serve the whipped sweet potatoes hot as a luxurious side dish.

Notes

  • Using mascarpone cheese adds a rich, creamy texture but cream cheese can be substituted if needed.
  • Roasting the sweet potatoes with skins on allows them to cook evenly and develop natural sweetness.
  • Ground nutmeg is optional but adds a wonderful warm flavor that complements the maple syrup.
  • For an extra smooth texture, ensure to peel potatoes thoroughly and blend until fully lump-free.
  • This dish can be reheated gently on stovetop, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
