This Ravioli Lasagna recipe offers a comforting fusion of classic lasagna and cheesy ravioli baked together with savory Italian sausage, hearty tomato sauce, and layers of ricotta and mozzarella cheese. Perfect for a family dinner, it’s easy to prepare and delivers rich, cheesy flavors in every bite.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 16 ounces Italian Sausage
  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced

Pasta and Sauces

  • 20 ounces refrigerated cheese ravioli (any variety can be substituted)
  • 28 ounces pasta sauce

Cheeses

  • 4 cups mozzarella cheese, finely shredded
  • 2 cups low-fat ricotta cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the lasagna.
  2. Cook Sausage Mixture. In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, cook the Italian sausage along with the chopped onion and minced garlic until the sausage is fully cooked and browned. Drain excess grease from the pan and return the cooked meat mixture to the pan.
  3. Add Pasta Sauce. Pour the 28 ounces of pasta sauce into the pan with the cooked sausage mixture and stir well to combine. Set this meaty sauce aside.
  4. Begin Layering. In an ungreased 13×9 inch baking dish, spread approximately 1 1/4 cups of the meaty pasta sauce evenly as the first layer.
  5. First Ravioli Layer. Place half of the refrigerated cheese ravioli over the sauce layer. Then, spread another 1 1/4 cups of the sauce on top of the ravioli, followed by 1 cup of the low-fat ricotta cheese and a generous topping of mozzarella cheese.
  6. Second Ravioli Layer. Repeat the layering process with the remaining ravioli, an additional 1 1/4 cups of sauce, 1 cup of ricotta cheese, and more mozzarella cheese on top.
  7. Add Remaining Sauce and Cheese. Spread the remaining meaty pasta sauce evenly over the top layer, then cover it generously with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  8. Bake. Place the assembled dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  9. Rest and Serve. Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes to set. Before serving, optionally garnish with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese for extra flavor.

Notes

  • This recipe can be easily customized by using any type of ravioli you prefer, including vegetarian or meat-filled options.
  • If you want a richer flavor, feel free to use whole milk ricotta cheese instead of low-fat.
  • The baking dish does not need to be greased as the sauce and cheese create enough moisture to prevent sticking.
  • Allowing the lasagna to rest before serving helps the layers set and makes slicing easier.
  • For a spicier kick, consider using spicy Italian sausage or adding red pepper flakes to the sauce.
