Ingredients
Filling
- Chive & onion cream cheese, softened – 4 oz
- Dijon mustard – 1 ½ tbsp
- Fresh rosemary or thyme, finely chopped – 3 tsp (divided)
- Gruyere cheese, shredded – 2 cups (divided)
- Turkey, thinly sliced (leftover or deli) – 1 lb
- Whole-berry cranberry sauce – 1 (14 oz) can
Dough
- Crescent rolls – 1 tube
Topping
- Butter, melted – 2 tbsp
- Poppy seeds – ½ tsp
- Granulated garlic – ½ tsp
- Salt – ¼ tsp (to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Arrange Dough: Separate the crescent rolls from the tube and arrange them in a circular shape on the prepared baking sheet, overlapping the wide ends towards the center to form a ring base.
- Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened chive & onion cream cheese, Dijon mustard, and 1 teaspoon of the chopped fresh herbs until smooth. Spread this mixture evenly over the crescent dough base. Then sprinkle 1 cup of shredded Gruyere cheese over the cream cheese layer for a rich, creamy flavor.
- Add Turkey & Cranberry: Layer the thinly sliced turkey evenly over the cheese. Spread half of the whole-berry cranberry sauce over the turkey layer, then sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded Gruyere cheese on top.
- Form the Ring: Fold the pointed tips of the crescent dough over the filling to partially cover it and tuck the ends underneath the base to secure the ring shape.
- Add Toppings & Bake: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, poppy seeds, granulated garlic, and salt. Brush this mixture generously over the surface of the dough. Bake the ring in the preheated oven for 22 to 24 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
- Garnish & Serve: Once baked, remove the ring from the oven and sprinkle the remaining chopped fresh herbs on top for brightness. Slice into wedges and serve warm alongside the leftover cranberry sauce for dipping.
Notes
- You can substitute fresh rosemary or thyme depending on your preference; both add a lovely earthy aroma.
- If you don’t have Gruyere, a good melting cheese like Swiss or mozzarella can be used instead.
- Use leftover turkey or deli turkey slices, ensuring they are thinly sliced for easy layering.
- For a more festive presentation, garnish with extra fresh herbs right before serving.
- This ring is best served warm to enjoy the gooey cheese and flaky dough.
- Leftover cranberry sauce can be used as a dipping sauce or spread.
