Ingredients
Beef Short Ribs
- 4 pounds beef short ribs (about 8 short ribs), boneless or bone-in
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Broth and Seasoning
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 sprig fresh rosemary
Instructions
- Season the short ribs: Generously season the beef short ribs with salt and black pepper on all sides to enhance the flavor of the meat.
- Sear the short ribs: Heat a large skillet over high heat. Carefully sear the short ribs on all four sides for about 60 seconds per side to develop a rich, caramelized crust.
- Prepare the slow cooker: Pour the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder into the slow cooker. Stir gently to combine the liquids and seasonings evenly.
- Add the short ribs: Place the seared short ribs into the slow cooker, making sure they are nestled into the broth mixture.
- Add the rosemary and cook: Lay the fresh rosemary sprig on top of the meat and cover the slow cooker with its lid. Cook on the low setting for 6 to 8 hours, until the short ribs are tender and falling off the bone.
Notes
- You can substitute fresh garlic and onion for the powders if desired, but powders give a consistent flavor.
- Searing the ribs is important to lock in flavor and improve the texture of the finished dish.
- Cooking times may vary slightly depending on your slow cooker model.
- Serve the short ribs with mashed potatoes, polenta, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
