This Slow Cooker Turtle Candy Recipe delivers rich, melty chocolate combined with crunchy pecans and sweet Rolo centers, all made effortlessly in a slow cooker. The candies are topped with colorful sprinkles for a festive finish, perfect for gifting or enjoying as a delightful treat any time of the year.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 24 to 30 candies

Ingredients

Chocolate Mixture

  • 2 cups pecan halves
  • 16 ounces chocolate almond bark, roughly chopped
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 4 ounces German’s sweet chocolate, roughly chopped
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Candy Toppings

  • 24 to 30 Rolo candies, unwrapped
  • ¼ cup sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Arrange Pecans and Chocolates: Put the pecan halves in the bottom of a 5- or 6-quart slow cooker. Add the chopped chocolate almond bark over the pecans to form an even layer.
  2. Add Additional Chocolates: Sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly over the almond bark, then add the chopped German’s sweet chocolate on top to build your chocolate layers.
  3. Slow Cook Chocolate Mixture: Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 1½ to 2 hours. Avoid stirring during the first hour to allow the chocolate to begin melting evenly.
  4. Initial Stirring: After the first hour, check the chocolate. Once it starts to melt, gently stir the chocolate and pecans together to combine them smoothly.
  5. Continue Cooking and Stirring: Keep cooking on LOW, checking and stirring the mixture every 15 to 20 minutes until the chocolate is fully melted, smooth, and the pecans are evenly coated.
  6. Add Vanilla Extract: Turn off the slow cooker and stir in the vanilla extract to flavor the chocolate mixture.
  7. Prepare Baking Sheets: Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and prepare for candy placement.
  8. Arrange Rolo Candies: Unwrap the Rolo candies and space them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets for easy handling and decorating.
  9. Scoop Chocolate Mixture: While the chocolate-pecan mixture is still soft and pourable, scoop about 1 heaping tablespoon directly over each Rolo candy, covering but keeping the layers thick and clustered.
  10. Spread Chocolate Mixture: Use the back of the spoon to gently spread the soft chocolate just enough to cover the Rolo candy, ensuring a nice thick coating around each piece.
  11. Add Sprinkles: Working with 4 to 5 candies at a time, immediately decorate the tops with sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet for a festive finish.
  12. Repeat Scooping and Decorating: Continue until all of the chocolate-pecan mixture has been used and all candies are decorated.
  13. Set the Candies: Let the candies stand at room temperature for 30 to 45 minutes until completely firm. If your kitchen is warm, place the baking sheets briefly in the refrigerator to help the candies set.
  14. Serve or Package: Once set, carefully lift the candies from the parchment paper and serve immediately or package them for gifting.

Notes

  • Do not stir the chocolate mixture during the first hour of cooking to allow it to melt evenly.
  • If your kitchen is warm, refrigerate the candies briefly to help them set faster.
  • You can substitute pecans with walnuts if preferred for a different nutty flavor.
  • Store the finished candies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • Sprinkles add a festive touch but can be omitted or replaced with chopped nuts or sea salt for variation.
