Ingredients
Marinade
- 3 tbsp soy sauce (45 g)
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar (15 g)
- 1 tsp sesame oil (5 g)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced or frozen garlic cubes
- 3 tsp ginger, minced or frozen ginger cubes
- 1 tsp honey (5 g)
- 1 tsp chili garlic sauce (5 g)
- ½ lime, juiced (8 g)
- handful of cilantro, chopped (6 g)
Main Ingredient
- 1 ½ lb sockeye salmon (672 g), skin on
- Kosher salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, honey, chili garlic sauce, lime juice, and chopped cilantro. Mix well to create a flavorful marinade.
- Marinate the Salmon: Place the sockeye salmon in a shallow dish or a resealable ziplock bag. Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring it is well coated. Cover or seal and refrigerate to marinate for at least 30 minutes and up to 8 hours for maximum flavor infusion.
- Preheat the Broiler: When ready to cook, preheat your oven broiler and position a rack on the second highest level. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Salmon for Broiling: Remove the salmon from the marinade and place the fillets skin side down on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with kosher salt and crack fresh black pepper over the top.
- Broil the Salmon: Broil the salmon on low heat setting for 3-5 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets and your desired doneness. If more color or slight crisping is preferred, broil on high for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve hot. This salmon is excellent with steamed rice, noodles, sautéed or steamed vegetables, or atop a fresh Asian slaw for a complete meal.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, adjust the amount of chili garlic sauce to your preference.
- Marinating longer (up to 8 hours) enhances the salmon’s flavor but avoid exceeding this to prevent the fish from becoming mushy.
- Use parchment paper or a non-stick surface to avoid the salmon sticking to the pan while broiling.
- Monitor salmon closely under the broiler to prevent overcooking, as broilers vary in intensity.
- If fresh garlic or ginger is unavailable, frozen cubes are a convenient alternative.
