Ingredients
Beef Filling
- 1 pound ground beef
- ¼ cup mild salsa
- ⅓ cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning or 1 packet
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Dough
- 2 packages crescent rolls (8 ounces each)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare it for baking the taco pockets.
- Cook the beef: Brown the ground beef in a large pan over medium heat until fully cooked through, making sure to break it apart as it cooks.
- Add flavorings: Stir in the mild salsa, beef broth, and taco seasoning. Allow this mixture to cook for 5-7 minutes to blend the flavors and reduce slightly.
- Mix in the cheese: Remove the pan from heat and fold in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and evenly distributed in the meat mixture.
- Prepare the dough: Remove the crescent rolls from their packages and roll each out flat. Using the existing seams, cut each package into 4 rectangles (8 total) and press the diagonal seams together to seal.
- Assemble pockets: Place the dough rectangles onto a baking sheet. Spoon approximately ¼ cup of the beef mixture onto one side of each rectangle.
- Seal the pockets: Fold the crescent roll dough over the filling and seal all the sides tightly to form pockets. Use a fork to press down on the seams, ensuring they are well sealed to prevent filling leakage.
- Bake: Bake the pockets in the preheated oven for 13-15 minutes or until they turn golden brown and cooked through.
- Cool and serve: Let the taco pockets cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy with your favorite taco toppings such as sour cream, guacamole, or salsa.
Notes
- You can customize the spiciness by choosing mild or spicy salsa and adjusting taco seasoning amount.
- For a lighter version, use lean ground beef or ground turkey.
- Adding diced onions or peppers to the beef mixture before cooking can add extra flavor and texture.
- Ensure the pockets are sealed well to avoid leaking filling during baking.
- These pockets can be prepared in advance and baked right before serving for convenience.
