  • Total Time: 26 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 2 1/2 lbs salmon filet, sliced into 2″ wide slices

Teriyaki Sauce Marinade

  • 3 Tbsp teriyaki sauce
  • 3 Tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large or 3 medium garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp freshly grated ginger (or 1/2 tsp ground ginger)

Garnish (Optional)

  • Sesame seeds
  • Green onion, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prep: Grease a large rimmed baking sheet by covering it with foil and then applying a light layer of grease to ensure easier clean-up. Preheat your oven to 400˚F (204˚C).
  2. Make the Sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine teriyaki sauce, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, white vinegar, sesame oil, light brown sugar, minced garlic, and freshly grated ginger. Stir the mixture until the brown sugar completely dissolves, creating a smooth marinade.
  3. Marinate the Salmon: Place the salmon slices in a mixing bowl and pour the prepared sauce over them. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let the salmon marinate for 20 minutes, either at room temperature or refrigerated. This allows the fish to absorb the flavors deeply.
  4. Bake the Salmon: Transfer the marinated salmon slices to the prepared baking sheet, reserving the leftover marinade. Bake the salmon in the preheated oven for 12 to 16 minutes, depending on thickness, until the salmon is flaky and cooked through but still moist.
  5. Prepare the Glaze: While the salmon is baking, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook the sauce for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly into a syrupy consistency. Remove from heat once done.
  6. Finish and Serve: When the salmon is out of the oven, brush each piece generously with the thickened teriyaki glaze. Garnish with chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds to add a fresh crunch and nutty flavor. Serve immediately for best taste.

Notes

  • Use fresh ginger for a brighter, more vibrant ginger flavor; ground ginger can be used as a substitute if fresh is unavailable.
  • Marinate the salmon no longer than 20 minutes to avoid breaking down the fish texture.
  • Adjust baking time according to salmon thickness to prevent overcooking.
  • For easier cleanup, covering the baking sheet with foil is recommended.
  • If desired, add a side of steamed rice or veggies to complete this wholesome meal.
