These Cheeseburger Sliders are the perfect crowd-pleasing appetizer or meal. Juicy ground beef mixed with tangy barbecue sauce and seasoned perfectly, baked as one giant patty, then topped with melted cheddar cheese and served on small Hawaiian rolls with your favorite classic burger toppings. Quick to prepare and easy to serve, these sliders make a delicious and fun handheld treat for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 sliders

Ingredients

Slider Meat Mixture

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • ½ onion, diced
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon seasoned salt
  • Pepper, to taste

Toppings and Assembly

  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 12 small Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 cup dill pickle slices (optional)
  • ⅓ cup ketchup (optional)
  • 3 teaspoons mustard (optional)
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Heat your oven to 400℉ to prepare for baking the meat mixture.
  2. Prepare Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, diced onion, barbecue sauce, breadcrumbs, seasoned salt, and pepper. Mix gently until evenly combined but do not overwork the meat to keep it tender.
  3. Shape the Patty: Press the meat mixture into a 9 x 13 inch baking dish, forming one large, even patty. Use a fork to poke holes across the surface to allow even cooking.
  4. Bake the Patty: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes. The meat will shrink away from the edges and juices will collect around the pan, indicating doneness.
  5. Drain Juices: Carefully remove the pan and drain off any accumulated liquid to prevent sogginess.
  6. Add Cheese: Lay the cheddar cheese slices evenly over the top of the baked meat and return the pan to the oven for 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts.
  7. Rest and Cut: Remove from the oven and let the meat rest for a few minutes. Then cut into 12 squares about 2 inches in size to fit the rolls.
  8. Assemble Sliders: Place each meat square on the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls. Add optional toppings such as dill pickles, ketchup, mustard, tomato slices, and shredded lettuce, then top with the roll tops.
  9. Serve: Serve immediately while warm as a delicious finger food perfect for parties, game days, or a casual dinner.

Notes

  • You can substitute regular rolls if Hawaiian rolls are unavailable.
  • Feel free to add extra toppings like sautéed onions, bacon, or jalapeños for more flavor.
  • If you prefer your meat more well done, bake for an additional 5-7 minutes before adding cheese.
  • Make sure to drain excess liquid well to keep sliders from getting soggy.
  • These can be prepared a day ahead and reheated gently in the oven before serving.
