This Tilapia in Roasted Pepper Sauce is a simple yet elegant Italian main course that combines tender pan-fried tilapia fillets with a rich and creamy roasted pepper sauce. Perfect for special occasions or a delicious weekday dinner, this recipe delivers exquisite flavors with minimal effort.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Fish

  • 1 lb tilapia fillets

Roasted Pepper Sauce

  • 3 tbsp butter, divided
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 6 oz roasted peppers, chopped
  • 6 oz roasted peppers, pureed
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Garnish

  • Chopped parsley
  • Grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the Fish: Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large, non-stick skillet over medium heat. Fry the tilapia fillets for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until they are cooked through and lightly golden. Season with salt and pepper, then remove the fillets from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté Onions: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened and translucent.
  3. Add Garlic and Peppers: Stir in the minced garlic along with both the chopped and pureed roasted peppers. Continue cooking for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Make the Sauce: Pour in the heavy cream and sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese into the pan. Turn off the heat and stir thoroughly. Taste the sauce and adjust with salt if needed.
  5. Combine Fish and Sauce: Return the cooked tilapia fillets to the pan, nestling them into the roasted pepper sauce so they are well coated and warmed through.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Garnish the dish with chopped parsley and additional grated Parmesan cheese before serving for a fresh and flavorful finish.

Notes

  • Use jarred roasted peppers or roast your own by charring bell peppers over a flame or in the oven until blackened, then peeling and chopping.
  • Ensure not to overcook the tilapia to keep it tender and flaky.
  • The sauce can be adjusted by adding more cream or Parmesan cheese to your preference.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with risotto, polenta, or crusty Italian bread.
